CWF is a group of women in the church who are dedicated to service, study and worship.
Christian Women's Fellowship (CWF) was founded in 1879 by a group of women who were
very concerned that the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) had no missionaries. A
small band of approximately 75 women raised enough money to train and send out the first
missionaries. Over the past 128 years women in the Christian Church have continued to
support missions around the world and right here in the United States.
Our CWF group in Runnells meets once each quarter for study and fellowship, and throughout
the year they are involved in service to our congregation and to the broader mission.
They raise funds through a Bazaar and Harvest Dinner in November and various other fundraisers
throughout the year. CWF funds are used to help young people attend church camp, support overseas
missions and to purchase kitchen supplies. Other special projects they have funded include
finishing the basement of the church’s new addition, our handicap restroom, fellowship
hall and new basement flooring. The caring women of our church perform a vital function for the
community by preparing and serving funeral luncheons. For fun the CWF sponsors a Christmas Tea
in December, prepares Christmas goodies for shut-ins and special friends and host a Salad Supper
for the women in the community each spring. All women of the church are welcome to join us at
any time.
